Attributes
Every character in Bughunter has six primary attributes:
- Strength (STR):
Your character's strength is the average of his Size and Endurance, i.e. to increase it, increase SIZ or END. Each STR point over 5 gives the character a damage bonus in melee. All weapons also require a certain STR to attack without penalty for being a whimp.
- Agility (AGI):
determines the basic chance to dodge melee attacks, jump over barricades, avoid slipping on banana peels etc. Higher AGI also gives you more Action Points.
- Endurance (END):
Endurance and size determine your character's Hit Points (HP). The higher your endurance, the faster you recover from Stun.
- Size (SIZ):
Endurance and size determine your character's Hit Points (HP). Small characters are more likely to be knocked down in combat. You also make a better snack.
- Intelligence (INT):
the AP costs of some actions is dependent upon INT. Higher INT gives you more Action Points.
- Coolness (COOL):
determines the character's chance to panic when being hit or scared by monsters. Higher COOL also gives you more Action Points.
Secondary attributes
- Action Points (AP). Basically, if you want a fast character with lots of AP, increase INT, AGI and COOL.
- Hit Points (HP). If your character reaches zero, he/she/it is dead, and stays dead. To create a tough character with lots of HP, increase SIZ and END.
- Melee Damage Bonus depends on your STR. It is added to the damage you inflict with each melee attack.
- Load
- Experience Points: see Bughunter experience point system.
- Kills
Spending attribute points
Humans and Monsters begin with a different number of points that can be distributed among the attributes. The various classes differ in minimum and maximum points for each attribute, e.g. Marines must have a minimum coolness of 3, Microbugs have a max. SIZ and END of 3, etc.
If you have unspent attribute points left, they are converted 1:10 into Experience points (XP). A new character with enough XP (currently: 50) can immediately buy a new skill.
Skills
All humans have only one skill while all bugs are born with three. Clever critters. If you have enough Experience Points, you can aquire additional skills or increase attributes in the game - if you survive long enough.

Starting Equipment
All human characters can choose from a number of items, depending on their class. Marines can pick weapons, civilians can buy mostly useless stuff, Deng troopers can buy only Deng weapons etc. Humans have six equipment slots.
Monsters cannot carry or use equipment.
